Prior to the Study

  • Have your Physician fill out the Requisition Form for Sleep Study.  Download Form Here.
  • Check with your Insurance Carrier to obtain Authorization if applicable.  We will help you with that.
  • Submit Requisition form and pre-authorization to the Guam Sleep Center at Pia Marine #609, 139 Tumon Lane or Fax form to (671) 647-NAPS (6277).
  • Call the Guam Sleep Center at (671) 64-SNOOZ (647-6669) to schedule your appointment.
  • The expense to us to run a sleep study is several hundred  dollars (room, technician, computers).  Thus, please be considerate and come on your scheduled day, on time.  We will have to charge $50 for "no-shows".
  • You will be reminded of your test 3 days before, and on the day of the study night.

Timeline

  • Arrive at the lab - Please arrive on time.
  • Fill out forms - 15 minutes
  • Light bedtime snack 
  • Change into night clothes and get ready for bed - 15 minutes
  • Hook-up procedure - 45-60 minutes
  • Bathroom, TV, Reading - 15-45 minutes
  • Bed time, Lights out scheduled at 10:00pm
  • Lights on between 5:00-5:30am
  • Unhooking - 15-20 minutes
  • Wash up and start your day - 15-20 minutes
  • Follow-up exam with referring physician 3-4 weeks after your study

Checklist for your Study

  • DO
    • Make sure your hair is clean and dry before your arrive at the sleep center.
    • Relax.  A calm frame of mind will enable you to sleep well.
    • Stick to your normal routine on the night of the study.  This includes:
      • Taking your medications; unless you doctor advises you not to
      • Regular food intake, avoiding caffeine
  • DON'T
    • Use hairspray or moose on the day of the study.  These could stop the sensors from working properly.
    • Nap on the day of the study as this may impair your sleep at night.
    • Wear nail polish.
